The lawmaker representing Oguta state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Frank Ugboma, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, over an alleged attempted assassination and incessant threat to his life.
In a petition letter dated July 23, 2020, signed by his counsel, Emeka Ozoani (SAN), made available to journalists the lawmaker alleged that his life was being threatened due to his stout opposition to alleged financial malfeasance by the leadership of the state House of Assembly.
Ozoani said his client, the Deputy Minority Leader in the House, had been inundated with strange calls from anonymous persons threatening to eliminate him.
The petition, which read in part, stated: “In or around July, 2020, our client granted a series of interviews on both the radio and print media in the state where he highlighted disturbing issues pertaining to the running of the State Assembly.”

He also spoke of alleged massive financial malfeasance being perpetuated by the leadership of the House.
Few days after the interviews, while returning from oversight functions to his constituency, he observed a vehicle, Toyota Camry, trailing him and alerted his orderly and increased the speed of his vehicle.
Surprisingly, when he was close to the entrance gate of his residence, the occupants of the Toyota Camry started shooting sporadically, and when his orderly released warning shots, the attackers drove off.
Ozoani further stated that in the 2019 general elections, his client survived a kidnap attempt, when the kidnap suspects blocked his vehicle and was shot at severally and that some of the bullet pellets were still lodged in his body.
“We, therefore, call on the Inspector-General to use his good offices to open an investigation to uncover the culprits behind the assassination bid on our client,” Ozoani submitted.
