Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Pedestrian In Anambra

A hit-and-run driver on Wednesday killed a male adult crossing the road at Okija junction in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra.

Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka.

Kumapayi said the accident occurred at about noon.

“An unidentified driver of an unknown vehicle knocked down a yet-to-be-identified male adult and sped off. It was a case of hit and run.

“An eyewitness account showed that the pedestrian was knocked down by the speeding driver while crossing the road.

“FRSC rescue team from Ihiala Command rushed the victim to Osungwu Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and his body deposited at the mortuary,” he said.

The sector commander, while warning motorists against speed limit violation also advised pedestrians to be watchful when crossing or walking along the road.

He admonished them to avoid any form of distraction, saying they should use the safest means of crossing the road to avoid accidents. (NAN)
