High Turnout Of Students As Lagos Public, Private Schools Resume

High turnout of students was noticeable at some private and public schools within Alimosho and Ikeja areas as primary and secondary schools in Lagos resumed on Monday.

News Agency of Nigeria correspondent who visited some schools within Alimosho and Ikeja areas saw students troop in at private and public schools.

Parents were bringing in students at some schools in Alimosho such as Krisbetel College, Honeyland Schools, Daystar Montessori School, Sophem High School anf Alimosho Junior and Senior High School.

At Honeyland Schools, Ipaja, the school security did not allow parents to wait behind after dropping their children.

Mr. Ayodeji Olasubomi, a parent, appealed with schools to be considerate with tuition and other fees, especially with the economic situation in the country.

Olasubomi said that her children’s school had a sharp increase in the fees

“We have no choice than to retain the school because it is one of the best within Alimosho area,” he said.

Another parent, Mrs Aminat Rasaki, said she was happy that both the school and parents had provided necessary safety equipment. for students’ resumption.

Mr. Akintoye Hassan, Chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos State chapter, said there was high turnout in a lot of public schools within Alimosho area.

Hassan said that resumption, school calendar and holidays were planned and worked upon by Directorate of Quality Assurance under Ministry of Education, Lagos State.

“Both students and teachers in Lagos state are to resume fully today without any delay but we all know that few students will resume during the week or next week,” he said.

Mr. Yomi Otubela, National President, National Association of Proprietor of Private Schools, said that private teachers were trained during the holidays, which made them fully ready for resumption in Lagos state.

Otubela said that revision of previous teaching before holiday was expected to be taught on the day of resumption at different private schools, and new schemes would start next week.

“We hope those that are not resuming today will join later in the week or by next week so they will not miss out from what others have learnt,” he said.(NAN)
