One teacher has won Christmas this year.

Libbi Duncan got well into the holiday spirit for her school’s “best Christmas costume” competition. Duncan spent hours meticulously getting ready to stun everyone at her school with the creative way she transformed herself into a festive Christmas tree.

Inspired by the holiday season, her hair — pulled up and adorned with red and gold Christmas ornaments — defies gravity. Her red sweater resembles a wrapped present, to which she attached a gold bow. Her bottoms are decorated with snowflakes and cute Christmas cookie men.

Duncan snapped a selfie in front of a mirror on her way to school and shared her story on Reddit. She captioned the photo, “Merry Christmas! I spent an hour this morning turning my hair into a Christmas tree for a costume contest at work. I have no shame.”

Her creative look is gathering social media notoriety. She said, “The response was overwhelmingly positive. … My faith in humanity has been restored. Even random internet strangers are mostly kind, good-hearted souls.”

Once you hear a little more about Duncan, you can understand where her skills and passion come from. The 31-year-old high school English teacher from Amarillo, Texas, is also an author of young adult books, and an Army veteran.

On top of all that, she’s an amateur cosplayer, which ultimately explains her amazing Christmas tree hair ‘do. “I’ve gone to book signings and conventions dressed as Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Lara Croft (Tomb Raider), Princess Leia, and Bulma (Dragon Ball Z),” Duncan told Yahoo Lifestyle via email. “I’m also a huge nerd — I LOVED The Last Jedi, and I have a Harry Potter-themed classroom, if that tells you anything.” It definitely does.

It should be little surprise that the passionate teacher won the competition. She celebrated and shared a photo with her prize. Duncan wrote, “I won the costume contest and a fancy new pen! It ended up being a hand-carved ballpoint pen, not a fountain pen… but I still love it! Merry Christmas Reddit!”

A commenter wrote, “The prize is a hand-crafted fountain pen, you know you’re an adult when a pen is exciting.” To which Duncan responded, “A cool pen is only second to a good book as far as gifts go.”

When we asked Duncan where she gets all the energy to focus on so many projects, she explained: “I struggle with chronic illness due to a genetic disorder called Marfan syndrome, so creative outlets like writing, painting, cooking, cosplay, and DIY projects help me stay distracted and optimistic. I hope that my endeavors will inspire my students and others to follow their dreams and stay positive no matter what life throws at them.” We’re pretty sure they will.
