The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has raised alarm over alleged plot by some herdsmen to assassinate him.
The herdsmen, he said, were occupying part of Guma local government area of Benue State.
The governor raised the alarm on Friday in Makurdi during a meeting with some stakeholders including church leaders and traditional leaders.
He said he had already reported the case to security agencies.
The governor explained that intelligence report available to him stated that the plot was attack him along the Abuja-Lafia Road, kill his security aides after which he would be kidnapped and tortured to death.
His words: “The armed herdsmen, according to the intelligence report, would ensure that all my security aides were killed, after which they would kidnap and torture me before killing me.

“Already, I have reported the matter to the police and other security agencies and they are aware of this.
“Therefore, anytime my spirit doesn’t allow me to travel by road, I would call flight operators. But, just a few days ago, the federal government issued a circular directing that no flight should land in Makurdi airport again.”
It would be recalled that herdsmen had invaded communities in Benue State on several occasions killing people and destroying properties.
The anti-grazing law enacted by the state government has been said to be the reasons behind the series of attacks.
The security agencies have appeared to be unhelpful as killings had continued despite their presence.
