Former President of Ghana, John Jerry Rawlings, is dead.
He was said to have died on Thursday morning at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
He reportedly died from complications of COVID-19.
Rawlings, was first a military leader in Ghana and later became a politician.

He took over power in Ghana as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d’état in 1979.
As a military leader, he launched a massive anti-corruption campaign to rid the nation of corrupt political elements.
He led the country as a civilian President from 1981 to 200.
He was until his death, the African Union envoy to Somalia.
Rawlings was among the most respected African leaders.
