The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has warned prospective applicants not to offer money to anyone with the aim of securing employment into the service.
It also appealed to those with vital information concerning suspected fraudsters to report to the nearest Corps stations.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the office of the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, in which it declared that recruitment exercise into the service is free of any charge from prospective applicants.
Independent investigations reveal that a ring of fraudsters operating in Lagos and other states of the federation are collecting money from prospective applicants into the service.
The applicants who are desperate job seekers are mainly young graduates and secondary school leavers. Some of the applicants who have already fallen victim had paid out between N50, 000 and N400, 000.
The Corps declared that its ongoing recruitment process is executed in an equitable and transparent manner. It also warned the public, especially applicants not to have any financial dealings with anyone as a guarantee for the recruitment into the service.
However, the NSCDC said it was working to apprehend the perpetrators of such illegal activities.
“Information reaching the NSCDC indicated that some unscrupulous individuals were extorting money from unsuspecting applicants/candidates under the false impression that they can guarantee their eventual recruitment into the service,” the Corps said, adding that “No applicant is required to make any payments to any individual or bank account at any time during the recruitment process.”
