Former Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Jokotola Pelumi, has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates court.

He is alleged to have received into his home, Adekunle Dabiri, who allegedly murdered a Deputy Superintendent of Police and five others.

Pelumi, who was arraigned on Tuesday, is facing a one count charge of receiving a murder suspect and also aiding his escape.

According to the Prosecutor, J.I. Eboseremen, Pelumi committed the offence at Agbowa near Ikorodu in Lagos.

He alleged that the accused had received Adekunle Dabiri into his home after he allegedly murdered Akingboju Akindele, a DSP and aided his escape from the hands of the police.

The offence, according to Eboseremen contravened Section 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Pelumi pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo granted bail to the accused in the sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She said one of the sureties should be a member of the State House of Assembly and adjourned the case until Nov. 26, for mention.

Pelumi was the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly during the second tenure of former Gov. Bola Tinubu.

He was however, impeached on Dec. 29, 2005 and in his place, Mr. Adeyemi Kuforiji also from Epe 1 constituency was elected.
