Unknown religious fundamentalists in Kaduna State on Friday night set the St. Augustine Catholic Church pulpit in Tudun-Wada in Kaduna South Local Government Area ablaze.
According to reports, the incident, which was made known by a source who pleaded anonymity, was the eight time a part of the church would be set ablaze.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Father Joshua Achir, confirmed the incident.
“St Augustine Catholic parish, Tudun wada Kaduna, opposite Maimuna Gwarzo Girls Secondary School behind Kaduna Polytechnic Main Campus was set on fire yesterday, Friday night, by unknown fundamentalists.
“This incident was the Eight time this church is being attacked and some of her properties burnt by people we suspect to be Islamic fundamentalists who do not want to see any church standing in that area,” the source said.
It was also gathered that the church has reported the incident to the law enforcement agencies.
The State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria led by Rev. Joseph Hayab has condemned the incident.
“CAN Kaduna State is sad with this development which is a clear indication that Kaduna is under siege and our government is not paying serious attention to these evil happenings but instead is busy chasing shadows with a divisive preaching bill,” Hayab said.
