The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday called on people of communities in flood prone areas in Kogi State to relocate to higher grounds.
This is to ensure safety from heavy flooding.
The advice was given in a statement on Thursday by Mr. Sani Datti, Head of Media and Publication, NEMA.
Datti disclosed that NEMA received a distress call of heavy flood in Sarkin Noma and Ganaja in Lokoja Local Government Area (LGA) and Igala mela LGA of Kogi, among others.
According to him, as a result of the alert, NEMA established contacts with the State Commissioner for Environment and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant stakeholders on plans to forestall disaster.
He explained that NEMA had already sent a team to the state for necessary actions.
Meanwhile, it has been gathered that the Lokoja-Abuja road was flooded on Thursday.
