The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has warned residents, especially the youth against using sex enhancement drugs, drug abuse and other social vices.
The Director of FCT Department of Security Services, Mr. Abdul- Lateef Bello, issued the warning during a Security Awareness And Sensitisation Programme, organised by the department, on Thursday in Abuja.
Bello explained that the sensitisation programme was in furtherance of the FCTA’s campaign for a safe and secured city.
Represented by Mr. Emmanuel Ogu, the deputy director in the department, Bello said it was very imperative for the youth to be law abiding, shun social vices and refuse to be a tool of destruction in the hands of unscrupulous politicians.
Bello said that the FCT Administration in collaboration with security agencies has experienced reasonable measure of success in tackling security challenges in the nation’s capital.
”I therefore call on the youths, our Royal Fathers, politicians and all stakeholders to ensure that the forthcoming FCT Area Councils elections is not used as an avenue for violence
”It is important to mention that the issue of drug abuse has been a menace in our society and we need to fight it by encouraging the youth to believe in their natural abilities to make a difference.
Earlier, the Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, Mr. Adamu Danze, said leadership was about adding value to people’s lives.
Also speaking, the Director Of Administration, Kuje Area Council, Mr. Dan Ayuba, who represented the Chairman of the council, said that stakeholders in Kuje have since embrace peace.

On his part, the Vice Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Aminu Gumel, said that the area council has not experienced any politically motivated violence since he assumed office.
He appreciated the FCT administration for the timely visit and promised that Bwari Area Council would be free from violence during and after the elections.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Candido cautioned traditional rulers not to get involved in politics.
He said as fathers to all they should not be seen to be actively involved in campaigning for votes for a particular candidate.
Candido added that AMAC under his leadership set up a Transition Committee to ensure a hitch free elections and handover process.
The Deputy Director, Area Council Service Secretariat, Mrs Ngozi Ogbo, thanked the Sapeyi of Garki and other traditional rulers for collaborating with government to ensure peaceful coexistence in FCT. (NAN)
