EXCLUSIVE: Two Years of APC Government: Buhari Has Misled Nigerians – Abubakar Tsav

A Former Lagos State Police Commissioner, Abubakar Tsav, on Tuesday, blasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari, saying they have deceived Nigerians.

Mr. Tsav who spoke in an exclusive interview with NEXT EDITION on President Buhari’s two years in office said the government is a near total failure.

As one of those who strongly supported him while he was campaigning for votes in 2015, the former top cop said the president has not lived up to most of his promises.

Apart from some degree of success in the fight against insurgency and the anti-corruption war which he described largely as “lopsided” Mr. Tsav said the administration has not achieved much in two years.

“I was one of those who supported the president but I have found that he wasn’t sincere at all. Nothing has really changed,” he said.

“The only difference between this government and that of the PDP is Buhari. Buhari alone cannot change the country and they say a tree cannot make a forest.

“People around him are very bad. We have heard allegations made against some of these people including the chief of staff and the secretary to the government of the federation.

“As at now, it is just like the chameleon that has changed its colour. When a chameleon is a chameleon but when it changes its colour, if you look you see a different perspective.”

Mr. Tsav also lambasted the government for consistently disobeying court orders and particularly mentioned the cases of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakkacky,

He also spoke against the long detention of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who recently gained his freedom.

The former police boss scored the government very low on education, healthcare delivery, agriculture and social security.

While criticising the anti-corruption campaign of the government, Mr. Tsav said the president should extend the dragnet to members of his party, noting that APC members were as corrupt as their PDP counterparts.

“Talking again about the anti-corruption war, we also want to see the government investigate and prosecute people accused of corruption in the APC too. They should not limit the fight to PDP.

“This is because most of the people who are now in the APC came out from the PDP. Some of them ran to APC because they wanted to evade prosecution. We want them to prosecute APC members accused of corruption.

“As far as I am concerned, it is one-sided but you will also agree that people who committed these offences were in the PDP but there are still some people who were neck-deep in corruption and then escaped to the APC and nothing is happening to them.”

He accused Mr. Buhari of reneging on his promise to stop public office holders from going to for medical treatment abroad, saying the president was the first to break the promise he made during his election campaign.

“They deceived us when they said they will not allow people to go for treatment abroad and now they are going. I am aware the president promised that people will no longer be allowed to go abroad for medical treatment.

“He was not sincere. It was just for the electioneering campaigns. They deceived us and that is just one of the promises they have not carried out. On that he is a total failure,” Mr. Tsav said.
