The Emir of Lafia, HRH Sidi Muhammad, has called on Nigerians to live in harmony with one another as a way of building peace and unity in the country.

The Emir stated this in government House, Makurdi, when he paid a condolence visit on Governor Samuel Ortom over the death of his sister, Doose Ortom, and other prominent indigenes of the state who also passed namely; Chief Sule Abenga, Ter Makurdi, Wife of Tor Lobi, Chief Christiana Anagende and former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Tsav.

The Emir expressed shock over the death of the Ter Makurdi especially, saying that only a few weeks ago, the Chief had spoken brilliantly at a peace meeting which held between Benue and Nasarawa States at a border town, Yelwata.

He prayed God to grant the dead eternal rest and to console the Governor, the individual families and the entire state over the irreparable losses.

In his response, Governor Samuel Ortom lauded the Emir for showing brotherliness and exhibiting passion for peace saying it will further deepen the relationship between Benue and Nasarawa states.

“Your coming is Biblical because we are asked to mourn with those who mourn. We are consoled by your visit. We are comforted because now we know that even though we are mourning, we have brothers to mourn with, to console and stand by us.

He also acknowledged the commitment of Nasarawa State Governor, Mr. Abdullahi Sule, towards peace building, promising that his government will reciprocate this commitment to ensure the eradication of criminalities in the border areas.

“The Nasarawa state Governor has shown concern for the peace of the two states. There can be no better brother that that. The peace we are having is because he has been able to stand by the truth.

“On our part as a people and Government of Benue State, we will continue to work together and create an atmosphere of peace especially at the border areas.

“We are not going to shield criminals and anyone who tries to bring crises will not be condoned rather the long arm of the law will catch up with you.

“Benue plateau is one but split into three and that should not divide us rather we work together to fight the poverty that ravish our people,” Ortom said.
