The attempt to recall the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye, did not go through.
The attempt hit a brick wall at the level of the Verification of Signatures.
The exercise was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Verification of Signatures is one of the steps in the recall process.
Held on Saturday, the exercise witnessed a very low turn out.
189,879 voters signed the petition for his recall, but during the verification exercise, only 18,742 signatories showed up.
The number of verified persons was quite below the required percentage for the process of the recall to go on.
With the development, Dino Melaye remains the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly.
Speaking at the end of the exercise, INEC Federal Commissioner in-charge of Kogi, Kwara and Nasarawa states, Alhaji Mohammed Haruna, said the main concern of the commission was to conduct a transparent exercise.
His words: “Turnout is not our problem; turnout is the problem of parties concerned, ours is to ensure transparency.”
