Delta state Police arrest 23 suspected cult members

Determined to make the state crime free, the Delta State Police Command said it had arrested 23 cult members during their alleged initiation in the forest of Ughelli.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to journalists in Asaba on Friday said operatives of the anti-cult unit acted on a tip off during its routine operation.

He added that the suspects were arrested with battle axes and guns.

Saying that investigation was ongoing, the police boss further disclosed that upon interrogation, many of the suspects confessed to being members of the Vikings.

His words:  “The suspects were arrested at the peak of their initiation, and upon interrogation, they confessed to be members of the Vikings Confraternity.  We are still investigating their case.”

Meanwhile, the police commissioner has called parents to protect their children against cult activities, warning that anybody caught would be made to face the wrath of the law.

He said that cultism was a training platform for robbers, kidnappers and other criminals and advised  members of the public to be security conscious.
