The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has expressed optimism that the party’s number of senators will soon increase.

He spoke to State House correspondents on Wednesday after APC senators held a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking against the backdrop of the Tuesday defection in the Senate, he said some of the senators were victims of misinformation.

According to him, some of them would soon return.

He added that two senators would soon join following the bye-elections that would be conducted in Bauchi and Katsina soon.

The two states are controlled by the APC.

On his allegation that some of the defectors were victims of misinformation, Oshiomhole said some who had other agenda misinformed some of the legislators, thus causing the defection.

His words:  “There was a clear attempt by a few who have other agenda to try to play up fears and then seek to profit from those fears by spreading misinformation in a manner that they did.

“But like everything that is not based on truth, overtime the truth emerges and people who are victims of disinformation retrace their steps; which is why a senator from Ogun (Mr Tejuoso) has returned to the fold and I am sure more and more, who left out of confusion and who were misled, I am sure will come back.”

He said despite the defection, the APC-led government would remain focused and continue to tackle the problems of insecurity, economy and corruption.

Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, also spoke of the chances of some of the senators who defected to return to the APC.

“Less than 24 hours into the defection, we had some discussions with some of our colleagues who defected and they have shown their willingness and interest and readiness to retrace their steps,” he said.
