Dettol Nigeria has distanced itself from popular actress, Funke Akindele, aka Jenifa, who in defiance to the ban on large gatherings and contrary to the social distancing order, organised a birthday party for her husband at the weekend.

In the same vein, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) issued a disclaimer on Akindele, insisting she is not their brand ambassador.

Akindele is the face of Dettol’s enlightenment campaign on COVID-19 teaching social distancing and other measures to prevent contracting the infection.

However, following the birthday party organised by Akindele for her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz, both Dettol and NCDC have washed their hands off her.

In Separate tweets on their Twitter handles, they said Akindele was on her own.

Dettol Nigeria tweeted: “We have been made aware through social media that Funke Akindele recently, acting in her personal capacity, had a celebration which is against the caution to the public on social distancing during the covid-19 pandemic.

“As a responsible organization and brand Dettol does not condone any breach of the guidelines on Covid-19. As an organization we are concerned at the turn of events.

“We will continue to support NCDC and the Nigerian govt to fight COVID-19.

“The NCDC partnered with Dettol on a public service message to educate our communities about preventive measures against COVID-19. Funke is not a brand ambassador of the NCDC.”

In its own tweet, the NCDC said: “As an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, NCDC has not engaged brand ambassadors as part of our response to #COVID19

“We continue to emphasise that all Nigerians maintain #socialdistancing to prevent the spread of #COVID19.”

Meanwhile, the police on Sunday arrested Akindele for flouting the directives on social distancing.

The police also invited her husband JJC Skillz and popular musician, Azeez Fashola commonly known as Naira Marley to present themselves at the State CID, Yaba on Monday for questioning.
