Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has been commended over the successes recorded in providing palliatives for Nigerians to cushion the socio-economic effects of the lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic.
The Nigeria Civil Society Desk (NCSD), which appealed to the minister to do more, during a press conference in Abuja, said COVID-19 pandemic, just like most other viral ailments, never gave warnings before it struck.
NCSD, in the conference jointly addressed by Ijewa Zeb Obioma, National Secretary and Emeh Friday Eleojo, National Coordinator, said no nation could have pre-planned for such health challenges before it manifested.

The group said the palliative packages were well thought out and successfully implemented by the minister’s office.
The group enjoined Nigerians to accord the minister every support, so she could do more for Nigerians, instead of dissipating energy in undue criticisms and controversies.
Commending the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, NCSD said, the group made up of about 35 registered civil society organisations, said the assignment was successful mostly in localities where it was easy to mark out the widows, orphans, and other less privileged Nigerians, as the people know themselves.
The group also urged Hajia Farouq to do more for Nigerians in the event of possible extension of the lockdown.
