The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation said it has distributed palliatives to 20 states in Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Head of the GJF office in Bayelsa State, Gloria Dede, said this at the weekend in Yenagoa while donating 1,000 (5kg) bags of rice and beans to the state government in the second phase of its distribution of palliatives.

She listed the states to include Anambra, Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Ekiti, Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Sokoto, Oyo, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and the FCT.

Dede said the donation of food items, sanitisers, sanitary items and other COVID-19 relief materials by the foundation were aimed at supporting the state governments in battling the crisis.

She said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a devastating impact on economies and governance around the world, thereby affecting the lives and livelihood of millions of citizens.

“For us at the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, our gesture, today, is a way of complimenting the efforts of different state governments by providing these palliatives to help cushion the economic impacts in many homes.

“This presentation is an ongoing process, and we are determined to cover other states in the country. So far, we have covered 20 states and some IDPs in the FCT.”

Governor Douye Diri, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Benson Agadaga, expressed gratitude to the GJF for the support.

He said the state government would identify with the GJF as its vision and mission were in line with the prosperity agenda of the present administration.

Agadaga said: “We look forward to partnering with your foundation in more areas so that we can build a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Bayelsa.”
