Efforts by former Governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, to secure a bail for his release on Wednesday was unsuccessful as the court disallowed his application.
Nyame was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by a Federal Capital Territory High Court on May 30 for misappropriating N1.64 billion Taraba funds while in office.
He is at present serving his jail term in Kuje Prison.
On Wednesday, he sought that he be released from the prison on health ground pending the determination of an appeal against his conviction.
However, Justice Adebukola Banjoko of an FCT High Court sitting in Gudu described his application a “unmeritorious.”
She said “the medical reports presented to the court were conflicting and the dates on them are not corresponding with each other.”
She told Nyame’s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, who represented him that his client should apply for medical attention in the Ministry of Interior under which the prison authorities operate.

Nyame, according to his lawyer, suffers from hypertensive and diabetes, and needed to have access to his traditional herbal drugs.
According to him, Nyame had been managing the condition for ten years, and the report from Taraba State Hospital indicated that he could die if not released from prison.
The prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, countered Ojo’s argument in favour of his client for release.
He said “mere” medical condition was not enough to secure release having been convicted.
He said he had lost the right to medical facilities of his choice hence should make do with the one provided by the government.
