“What do you want to be when you grow up?” This is one question almost every child is asked. Before certain careers in the arts became popular and lucrative, almost every child answered Doctor, Lawyer or Engineer to this question. Nothing else was worth exploring. If you deviated from this path you were deemed useless.
However, it has since been realized that the choice of occupation a child suggests is usually as a result of some influences which may not indeed reflect the true passion.
A number of examples abound. Folarin Falana, the very popular musician, known as Falz, studied Law, perhaps because his father – Femi Falana – is a successful lawyer. Today he has abandoned the wig to follow his passion which is music.
Funke Akindele of Jenifa franchise also read Law. We all know what she’s done with that degree.

I wanted to be a Pilot when I was younger and then it progressed to me wanting to be an Aeronautical Engineer. Later on in life I thought of becoming a Chemical Engineer. Then my interest shifted to computer and web designing which is what I’m doing now.

I wanted to be an Engineer and that’s what I ended up studying in school.

I wanted to be a doctor. Every child back then wanted to be a doctor. When JAMB examination would not allow me to have my way on three different occasions, I took the nearest available route. I read Botany. Today I’m working in the arts and doing business. Such a departure from Medicine.

I wanted to be a lawyer because my dad was a lawyer, but when I entered secondary school I realised that I didn’t like those subjects that I needed for that line of career. I changed my mind later to Medicine. When it came to time to choose what I wanted I knew I wanted to be a pharmacist.

I wanted to be a doctor. Then I read Microbiology. I’ve never worked a day in this field. Now I’m a Personal Assistant for lack of a better way to describe it. Funny how life works.

I wanted to be an Engineer when I was little. I then got into the university and read same. After school, there was no job, so, I turned to sewing that was a hobby. I am make a living off it.
