Nigerian music stars, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, and his Afrobeat counterpart, Ayodeji Balogun, also known as Wizkid, won their first Grammy Awards on Sunday.
They won the awards at the 2021 Grammy Awards Premiere ceremony on Sunday, March 14, 2021.
Burna Boy won the ‘Best Global Music Album’ for Twice As Nice at the Premiere ceremony of the 63rd Grammy Awards.
This win for Burna Boy, marks his first career Grammy win.
By this win, he becomes the first winner of the recently rename category, which was formerly known as ‘Best World Music Album.’
In his acceptance speech, delivered in English and Yoruba through a video, Burna Boy said: “Yes oh! Yes oh! Yes oh! Africa is in the House, mehn! Africa, we are in the House!
“This is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world!

“And this should be a lesson to every African out there: No matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it.”
Wizkid, on the other hand, won a Grammy for the ‘Best Music Video’ for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ Beyonce’s 2019 hit song.
He won the award alongside Beyonce, who owns the song and featured artistes – Wizkid, Blue Ivy, and SAINt JHN.
