Burial Of Late Major General Akpan, Former NYSC Boss Holds July 25

The burial of Late Major-General Edet Adam Akpan (rtd.), OFR, a one-time Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will hold on Saturday, July 25, 2020.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Mr. Patrick Albert and Mr. Sylvester Edem, Chairman, and Secretary/General Secretary, Media/Publicity, and Central Planning Committee (CPC) respectively.

According to the release, the interment, scheduled to hold at his country home, Iwok Obio Aduang, will be preceded by a funeral service at Qua Iboe Church Primary School Grounds, Iwok 1, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State by 11:00a.m prompt.

The release states: “An obituary announcement issued by the Chairman, Central Planning Committee (CPC), High Chief Gabriel Umoden in conjunction with the Chief Mourner, Mr. Victor Akpan, on behalf of the deceased family, stated that the final obsequies in honour of the departed Elder Statesman commenced on Monday, July 20, 2020 with the opening of Mourning House at Family Compound, Iwok Obio Aduang, Nsit Atai Local Government Area by 7:00a.m.

“It further stated that Vigil/Friends Evening will hold on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Family Compound, Iwok Obio Aduang, Nsit Atai LGA between the hours of 3:00pm to 6:00pm prompt.

“According to the obituary announcement, attendance at the funeral service on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Qua Iboe Church Primary School Grounds, Iwok 1, Nsit Atai is strictly by invitation in compliance to the safety guidelines and protocol of COVID-19 issued by NCDC/WHO and the Akwa Ibom State government.

“The late retired Major General Akpan, who was born on December 20, 1940 died on May 15, 2020 at the age of 79.

“He is survived by his wife, Evangelist Esther Edet Akpan, six children, grandchildren and a host of other relations to mourn his death.”
