The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly trying to subjugate his interest as a national interest and his personal political security as national security.
Prince Secondus said that national interest is as contained in the constitution and the rule of law of the nation and democracy is anchored on them.
Secondus made the assertion when he received two presidential aspirants of the party, former Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Atahiru Bafarawa, and the incumbent Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo at the party’s national campaign office, otherwise called Legacy House in Abuja.
According to a statement by his media aide, Ike Abonyi, the national chairman warned that President Buhari’s interpretation of national interest and national security should be disregarded because it was all aimed at enabling him create Order 6 to appropriate legislative and judicial functions and operate a full blown dictatorship.
Secondus challenged the President to append his signature on the Electoral Act as amended if he truly believes in conducting a free, fair and credible election.
He said he wondered why the president was foot dragging in signing the new Electoral Act when it was obvious that it would deepen the country’s electoral system and ensure faster growth of democracy.
Secondus assured the aspirants of the party at all levels that there was going to be a free, fair and transparent primaries where the delegates’ decision would prevail.
“Let me assure you all aspirants of our party that the era of impunity or imposition is over in the party as a rebranded PDP under my watch would ensure transparency and fairness for all,” he said.

He appealed to the aspirants to work harmoniously among themselves in the interest of the party since “only one person will get the slot at the end of the day.”
“We must not forget to put the will of God in all we do bearing in mind that nobody gets power unless as designed and approved by God.
“We are proud of all our aspirants; all of them are eminently qualified to rule this country and working in harmony we would chase out APC out of the Villa by 2019,” he said.
In his remarks, Alhaji Bafarawa assured that he would abide by the will of the party as to be demonstrated by the delegates of the party.
He said that all hands must be on deck to chase away President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, PDP, by 2019.
Also speaking in the same vain, Governor Dankwambo assured that he would subordinate his ambition to the party if the delegates decide to choose another person.
