President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate for approval for the confirmation of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second term in office.
Buhari had earlier submitted Yakubu’s name to the upper chamber as his nominee for the office.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan read the President’s letter on Tuesday at the resumption of legislative proceedings after a one month recess.
In the letter, Buhari asked the lawmakers to expeditiously consideration his request for another five-year tenure for Yakubu as INEC Chairman.
The Next Edition recalls that Prof. Yakubu had earlier in the month stepped down as INEC Chairman upon expiration of his appointment.
He handed over to Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Muazu as acting Chairman of the electoral body pending confirmation or otherwise of his reappointment by the senate.
