President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, Act.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, made this known on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents.

Said Enang:  “NFIU will now be domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria, but as an autonomous and independent body.”

NFIU is the Nigerian arm of the global Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), but was within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

With the development, the country is complying with the   international standards on combating money laundering and financing of terrorism.

The move would also check the proliferations and allow for the checking of suspicious transactions.
