President Muhammadu Buhari is not bothered about the comment ascribed to US President Donald Trump describing him as “lifeless.”

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made this known on Saturday when his principal arrived China for the 7th summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He said it should be noted that world leaders were still eager to meet the president.

According to him, the visits by British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were signs that Buhari was admired by world leaders.

His words:  “As a policy, we said that we are not going to answer the American President.

“However, the fact that the entire world and world leaders are queuing up to meet President Muhammadu Buhari is an indication that there is something about President Buhari, there is something about the Nigeria he now leads, that the world likes.”

He said the situation where some leaders in the world did not want to meet Nigerian leaders has been reversed.

“I think that Nigerians themselves should better look at this from this positive point of view, as a major development.

“We had situations in the country in the past where key world leaders didn’t want to meet our own leaders, all of that has changed in the last three years,” he said.

Shehu also spoke on the likely benefit Nigeria would enjoy from Buhari’s trip to China.

According to him, some of the ongoing projects in the country like the Kaduna-Kano rail, the coastal rail scheme, Mambilla power project, the second phase of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport expansion among others would move on well.

“We hope that whatever is left, the dotted lines will be signed, and we are hoping that we will take back with us, quite a number of schemes that will take Nigeria forward,” he said.
