Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar win big at the Grammys

The Grammy Awards this year was a highly anticipated one especially with the presence of Rap Legend, Jay Z and a slew of newcomers who put out a lot of good music for the year in which they were being honoured for.

However there was a lot of sneak attacks and the night ended up going to Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars!

Both artists smiled home with quite a few golden flutes!

Song of the Year went to Bruno Mars who beat the very popular Despacito and Jay Z’s 4:44.

Best Pop Vocal Album went to Ed Sheeran’s Divide.

Best New Artist went to Alessia Cara beating out SZA, Khalid and others.

This was received by the public with applause as the young lady put out an inspiring body of work in the past year.

Kendrick Lamar beats out Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow and Jay Z’s The story of O.J to get The Best Rap Song Award.

Best Rap Album again went to Kendrick beating Jay Z’s 4:44 that was a popular shoo in for the award.

Kendrick also took home Best Music Video for his song Humble off the Damn album beating Logic and Jay Z yet again!

Best R and B song went to Bruno Mars’s What I Like, defeating newcomers SZA, Khalid and others.

The Best Rap Performance went to Kendrick Lamar once more showing up Jay Z, Cardi B, and Migos’s very popular Bad and Boujee.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration went to Kendrick and Rihanna for the song Loyalty.

This category also had the very popular song Family Feud by Jay Z and Beyoncé, a powerful song that was speculated to surely take the night.

But yet again Kendrick proved that the voters really loved the work he put out last year.

The Weeknd’s Starboy took Best Contemporary Album beating newcomers SZA’s Ctrl and Khalid’s American Teen.

Best Spoken Word Album went to the Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher posthumously for the work she released.

Best R and B Album went to Bruno Mars’s 24k Magic a category that he well deserved to clinch the title.

The Biggest Awards of the night Record of the Year and Song of the Year which are the most highly anticipated awards of the night.

Record of the Year had Kendrick Lamar for Humble, Luis Fonsi for Despacito, The Story of O.J by Jay Z, 24k Magic by Bruno Mars and Redbone by Donald Glover in the running.

Bruno Mars’s 24K Magic! went home with the coveted title!

Album of the Year which was a title that Jay Z has never won in-spite of his 21 Grammys was won by Bruno Mars

This category had Kendrick’s DAMN, Melodrama by Lorde, 4:44 by Jay Z and Awaken my Love by Donald Glover.

This was the first time this category had only African American Men and a Woman in the running.

Bruno Mars in a shocking move beat out Jay Z and Kendrick to take the night!!

Jay Z went home without an award in spite of his seven nominations!! The music world will take some time to recover from this one.

Well done to the biggest winners of the night, Bruno and Kendrick! Job well done!
