President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the new National Minimum Wage Bill approving N30,000 for the least paid worker in Nigeria.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate), Ita Enang, disclosed this on Thursday.
Recall that the National Assembly, NASS, had passed the bill in March 2019.
The new minimum wage was negotiated in 2018 by a tripartite committee of the federal government and organised labour.

State governors had kicked against the N30, 000 new minimum wage claiming they would not be able to pay. They had sought to peg the wages at N22, 450.
In January, President Buhari sought the approval of N27,000 as against the N30,000 but the two chamber of the National Assembly refused to go below the N30,000 which labour had insisted on.
Enang stated that by the new law, it had become mandatory for employers to pay N30,000 as minimum wage to their workers.
