The Code of Conduct Tribunal has handed down a guilty verdict on the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen for failing to declare his assets in line with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

The tribunal chaired by Danladi Umar, also held that the embattled CJN should forfeit the monies in the five accounts he was accused of not declaring.

It held also that Onnoghen acquired the funds fraudulently since he failed to show how they were amassed.

Furthermore, the tribunal ordered that he be removed from office as the CJN with immediate effect standing on the provisions of Section 23 of the code of conduct.

The Tribunal also stripped him of all offices earlier occupied, such as the Chairman of the National Judicial Council and also the chairmanship of the Federal Judicial Service Commission.

Recall that Onnoghen who was suspended in January by President Muhammadu Buhari had allegedly resigned as the CJN a few weeks ago though nothing had been heard directly from the embattled CJN or the presidency.
