Bohemian Rhapsody wins big at the Academy Awards

The 91st Academy Awards popularly called ‘The Oscars’ was held on February 23, 2019, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, USA.

Following the controversy with the initial host of the show, Kevin Hart, the show had no official host this year. The event opened with a performance from American Idol alum, Adam Lambert and Famous Rock band, Queen.

The opening monologue was done by Amy Peohler, Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph. The three women insisted that they were not hosts of the show. In her opening remarks, Maya Rudolph, took a swipe at Donald Trump, President of the USA, in total reference to his desire to get Mexico to pay for building of the border wall saying “and Mexico will not be paying for the wall.”

Leading the nominations was highly acclaimed foreign movie ‘Roma’ with nine nominations, ‘A Star is Born’ with eight nominations and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Green Book’ with five nominations respectively.

The awards featured performances by Bette Midler, Jennifer Hudson and the highly anticipated performance of the hit song ‘Shallow’ by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for their movie ‘A Star is Born’ as well as others.
