Rivers’ Angels continued their dominance of Nigeria’s female football when they defeated Benin-based Edo Queens FC by 3-1, to romp into the finals of the maiden edition of the Betsy Obaseki women football tournament.

The Port Harcourt-based team defeated the home team 3 – 1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, on Saturday, to book a place in Sunday’s finals against Bayelsa Queens, who had earlier defeated Robo FC by the same margin in the first semi-final match.

Chiamaka Okuchukwu increased the tally with a brace in the 48th and 58th minutes of play before Edo Queens pulled back one, through a free kick brilliantly taken by Elizabeth Zirike in the 75th minutes of the game.

It would be a battle between two queens, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Queens in the finals, as home team, Edo Queens FC, squares it out against FC Robo for third place.

Meanwhile, following the high standard of play in the tournament, the organising committee has announced an increase in the prize money for the winner from N3 million to N5million.

The first runner up will now go home with N3million, up from N2 million, while the second runner up will earn N2million, up from N1million. (NAN)
