Benue Police Command has arrested 25 suspected cultists in the state including 13 young men who claimed they are farmers.
Parading the suspects at the Command’s Headquarters in Makurdi, the Police Commissioner, CP Garba Mukaddas said the 13 suspects were arrested while carrying out their initiation activities at Ikpayongo, Gwer East local government area of the state.
Addressing journalists in his office, CP Mukaddas, who flayed the activities of cult groups in the state, said Benue State Police Command has intensified efforts to clamp down on cult activities, armed robbery and kidnapping in the State.
He stated that consistent deployment of officers to strategic points in the state has foiled kidnap attempts and prevented unlawful assemblies.

He assured members of the public that the police will not leave any stone unturned while ensuring a safe environment for the good people of Benue state.
According to him, 25 suspected cultists were arrested, 12 have been charged to court and the others are being interrogated while seven arms, charms and 56 ammunition were recovered.
The CP urged the Benue public to avail the police with useful information that will aid prevention and investigation of crime when the need arises saying the command will continue to do its best to fight crime in the state through available resources and reliable information.
Speaking to newsmen during their parade, the suspects who spoke individually denied being cult members saying they are farmers.
