Benue State Governor and the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Samuel Ortom is currently leading in the early results from the governorship election already announced by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Makurdi.

As at the time of filing this report, INEC had announced the results of 13 local government areas including Guma, where the PDP won massively to the astonishment of the APC who kicked against the results calling for immediate cancellation.

In the 13 local governments, the PDP polled a total of 179, 571 votes while the All Progressives Congress, APC got 157, 749 votes.

However, out of 13 local government areas announced so far, APC has won in seven local governments while the PDP won in six.

Meanwhile, in Guma local government, alone, the PDP’s Samuel Ortom polled 28,479 to defeat Emmanuel Jime of the APC who got 8, 869 votes.

Upon announcement at INEC Headquarters in Makurdi, the APC central agent, Joe Abagu kicked against the result and asked INEC to cancel the result.

He argued that what happened in Guma was not an election saying there was no evidence that smart card readers were used during the elections.

But in a swift reaction, the central agent for the PDP, Alex Adum cautioned that INEC is a collation centre and has no right to cancel the results.

Adum asked the APC to go get themselves acquainted with the laws guiding the conduct of the election and to channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters.
