The American University of Nigeria, AUN, Yola, on Thursday announced it will commence six undergraduate programmes in Engineering beginning from the 2019 fall semester.
The President of the University, Dr. Dawn Dekle stated this in a press statement signed by the Vice President for University relations, Dr. Abba Tahir and made available to the Next Edition.
According to the President, the university is starting the much awaited Engineering programmes after it received approval from the National Universities Commission, NUC.
Dr. Dekle explained that the approval letter dated July 22, 2019, was signed by the NUC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Dr. Gidado Kumo permitting the institution to kick start the programmes leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering, (B.Eng.).
He said these include, Degrees in Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Electonics Engineering.
The president, who noted that admission is ongoing for new intakes described the approval as a milestone for the university saying “Our learning community is opening the doors to students who have dreams of becoming Engineers. They will add a significant voice to AUN and we cannot wait to welcome the pioneer class of Engineering students in fall 2019”.
The Vice President assured that as the programme begins, school management and academic staff will maintain the standards that have seen its students coming out top graduates of schools in Europe, Asia and in the United States and in building their businesses.
The Provost, Professor Muhammad Kah, assured that the pioneer Engineering students will get the right education that prepares them for the knowledge economy.
According to him, “AUN established the first software Engineering degree programme not only in Nigeria, but but also in Africa and today hosts the largest pool of interest for young people who are interested in Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence Algorithm, Complexity, Networks and Distributed Computing among others”.
The statement said that the six new Engineering courses bring to 22 the total number of majors taught at the university which offers an American style technology intensive liberal arts eduction from its secured Yola campus.
