The 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Ondo State has arrested soldiers who allegedly gang-raped a female student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

The victim, said to be a 300-level student of the Department of Religious and African Studies of the university, was allegedly gang-raped by the soldiers at a checkpoint in Ikare Akoko, in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Wednesday.

She was said to have been ordered to alight from a commercial bus by one of the soldiers, a Lance Corporal, who dragged her into their relaxing room at the checkpoint, where she was allegedly raped.

According to reports, the soldiers on the said check point were in the habit of such dastardly act as Wednesday’s incident was said not to be the first.

The arrest of the soldiers was confirmed by the Brigade Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Brig. Gen. Zakari Abubakar.

He said investigation had commenced into the matter.
