APC wins all chairmanship seats in Edo

All the 18 local government chairmanship seats in Edo State have been won by the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the election which held on Saturday.

The result was announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Prof. Stanley Orobator.

While announcing that the certificates of return would be given to the new chairmen on Monday, he described the election as devoid of violence.

The results indicated that the elected chairmen are Mr Victor Emuanhagbon for Esan South-East Local Government Area; Augustine Okhoibkole for Esan North East and Mr. Musa Yakubu for Etsako West.

Mr. Waziri Idemudia is for Esan Central; Mr Patrick Aguinede, Esan West; Mr Ogedengbe Odia, Igueben; Mr Sylvester Okoro, Orihonmwon; Mr. John Akhigbe, Etsako Central and Mr. Eric Osayande, Ikpoba-Okha.

While Evbareke Osunde was elected for Oredo; Mr Aremiyau Momoh, Etsako East; Oteh Omoru, Akoko-Edo and Destiny Enabulele, Ovia South West, Ogbemudia Osaze emerged the winner of the chairmanship seat for Ovia North East.

Mr Napoleon Agbama was elected chairman for Uhunwode, and Andrew Osigwe won in Owan East while Eghe Ogbemudia was declared winner in Egor as Frank Ilaboya won in Owan West.

It would be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP abstained from the election.

Speaking on the election on Saturday, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State commended INEC for the peaceful conduct of the election.

He described the abstaining of the PDP from the election as of no effect.

His words:  “I learnt that the materials were distributed promptly, even as far as to Edo North Senatorial District. The only ugly situation was in Egor and that has been handled…

“We can confidently say the opposition party is not in existence in the state. Every politician aspires from the units and if you do not give them the platform, they will seek it outside.”
