The baale of Shangisha, Yusuf Ogundare, has been deposed by the Lagos State government.
The deposition which was announced on Sunday followed Ogundare’s stage-managing of his own abduction.
It would be recalled that Ogundare’s reported abduction took place on July 5, 2017 along Centre for Management Development, CMD, Road at Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The abduction, according to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, was discovered to be self-sponsored by Ogundare.
The police discovered that on the day of the said abduction, he was found to be frolicking in Ibadan, Ilorin, and Iwo, in Osun State.
Following the discoveries, the governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode, had on Thursday ordered his suspension.
The order was contained in a memo sent to the sole administrator of Ikosi-Isheri by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Teslim Folami.
The memo reads: “I am directed to convey the approval of His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, of the suspension of Chief Yusuf Ogundare, baale of Shangisha with immediate effect in accordance with Section 38 subsection 1 of the Obas and chiefs laws of Lagos State which states that ‘the governor may suspend or depose any Oba or chief whether appointed or after commencement of this law, if he is satisfied that such suspension of disposition is required according to customary law or is necessary in the interest of peace and good government.”
