A socio-political organisation, Akwa Ibom Consolidated Alliance (ACA) has praised Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State for keeping the vision of the founding fathers of the state alive through superlative performance.
The president of the group, Dr. Andrew Uwanta, said on Thursday that the governor’s industrialisation policy had created employment opportunities to thousands of youths in the state.
Uwanta said at 30 the dreams of the founder fathers of the state had not been in vain,
He added that “there is much to celebrate thirty years after its creation from Cross River State by the erstwhile administration of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida in September 23rd 1987.”
According to him in terms of infrastructural development the state has moved far ahead of Cross River State from where Akwa Ibom was carved out 30 years ago.
He said “The people and government of Akwa Ibom State have reasons to celebrate. When the state was created, we inherited nothing tangible as assets. Uyo was made the state capital. The then leadership of Uyo Local Government Area surrendered their uncompleted secretariat which we used as government house.”
The only delay the state recorded in infrastructure and human development, he said, could be attributed to the many years of military regime in the country.
Uwanta argued that the only noticeable development during the military era was state secretariat built by Idongesit Nkakaha, noting, “but today we are ahead of other states created about the same time.”
He lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for his superior performance adding that Udom had exceeded the target he set for.
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will be in the state on Saturday to commission people-oriented projects executed by the Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
