Chief of Staff to the Minister of Niger Delta, Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren, has lost is father, Elder Udo Umoren Akpan.
He was aged 81 years.
Elder Akpan, JP, who was a teacher, deputy headmaster and headmaster in various primary schools in Akwa Ibom was said to have passed on after a brief illness.
Sir Etekamba, who is a former Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State government, officially announced his father’s demise on Sunday, August 23.

Umoren described his father as “a teacher’s teacher, a strict disciplinarian, a community leader, and a Lay Preacher in Methodist Church Nigeria.”
He said “The late Elder Patron Udo Umoren impacted a lot on his pupils, most of whom occupy top positions in government. On his retirement, he pioneered the establishment of Nursery/Primary School, Methodist Academy, Ikot Esetang, Uruk Uso, in Ikot Ekpene, He raised all his children with strict discipline, and inculcated in them strong Christian virtues.”
He is survived by a wife, Madam Comfort and eight children among whom are: Engr. Nkereuwem, Dr. Anietie, Rev. Idorenyin, Nsima, Mbetobong, Engr. Usen and Otobong (Mr), together with daughters-in-law, grandchildren and other relations.
The remains of Elder Akpan would be interred in his hometown after a funeral service at Methodist Church Nigeria, Ukana Ikot Ide, Essien Udim Local Government Area on Friday, September 25, 2020.
