The Senate has approved the nomination of Abike Dabiri-Erewa as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission.

Incidentally, Dabiri-Erewa, who currently is the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, as a House of Reps member, chaired the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs; and sponsored the bill seeking the establishment of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission.

The confirmation of her nomination was made known on Thursday by the Senate on its official Twitter handle @NGRSenate.

According to the tweet, the Senate had considered the report of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations led by Senator Rose Oko and subsequently dissolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider Dabiri-Erewa’s nomination.

She was later confirmed

Reacting to the confirmation Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki said, “On behalf of the Eighth Senate, let me congratulate Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa on this appointment, which is well deserved.

“We wish her a successful tenure and hope she will be a great Ambassador for the country.”
