As the people of Guinea Bissau turn out for the presidential run-off election on Sunday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Mr. Emeka C Kalu, has joined the campaign team of Engr Nuno Gomes Namiam, who many see as the leading candidate.
Kalu, an associate of Nabaiam and National Director, Special Duties, Peoples Democratic Party Youth Alliance (PDPYA), who spoke to NEXT EDITION on Saturday, said he was invited by “his friend” to help garner support for him from among the Nigerians who live in that country.
He said that for some weeks now, he had been on the Nabiam/Sesekko campaign team, attending rallies and speaking to Nigerians on the need for them to come out massively to vote for Nabiam and his running mate, Sesekko.
He expressed optimism that his candidate would win as other parties had come together under a coalition to support Nabiam, who is running under MG 15, against Mr. Domingos Perezz of PAIGC.
Kalu, Director-General, Global Initiative for Good Governance, maintained that the Guinea Bissau’s election is of immense interest to Nigeria, as the leading country in the West African region, maintaining that several thousands of Nigerians live, work and do business in that country.

He said that the election is of immense interest to Nigeria as Guinea Bissau is a member of Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS), adding that Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama and some other top officials, were already there to observe the election.
Kalu said: “The Guinea Bissau run-off election is of interest to Nigeria. Several Nigerians have business interest in that country. Many of our people live there and do business there. Even our past presidents have a lot of interest in Guinea Bissau.
“Already, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Onyeama, is already here. It is believed that if Nabiam wins, as he should, he will bring a lot of development in that country, which will impact on other West African country, especially Nigeria.
“The country has been experiencing a lot of challenges, especially in the economic sector. Nabiam, if elected, will get the country working. Luckily, Nigerians here are responding posituvely to the campaigns and will most likely come out to vote, especially on the side of Nabiam.
“The citizens of that country are united in the quest to change the status quo in that country so they can begin to enjoy democracy dividends as the country would witness proper development in all sectors, according Nabiam’s manifesto, which includes rebuilding Guinea, build roads, empower people and creating jobs for the citizens.”
