In his quest to halt criminal activities in Benue state, the new Police Commissioner, Mukaddas Mohammed Garba, has appealed to the people of the State to volunteer information to the police pledging that identities of informants would be adequately protected.
The Commissioner stated this in his office at the Command headquarters on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the successes recorded by the Command.
Mukaddas stated that information is very important for the police to succeed and sought cooperation of the Benue people to enable him flush out criminals terrorising innocent residents.
He stated that the essence of the briefing was to inform the Benue public that he has resumed work and that he would employ all necessary strategies to protect lives and properties of Benue people, prevent and detect crime within the State.
“These strategies will include community-based policing and synergy with other security agencies in the fight against crime.

“I urge the good people of Benue state to be security conscious and feed the police with useful information for effective policing. We assure you that every information given to the Police will be treated in confidence.”
The CP also paraded 19 suspects arrested for sundry crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, illegal arms’ manufacturing and cultism. He said their cases have been charged to Court for prosecution.
Among those paraded were a suspected illegal arms manufacturer from Oju Local Government Area, who was manufacturing prohibited arms and supplying same to criminals.
Items recovered from them include locally made pistols, fabricated metal barrels modified to fire both ammunition and catridges, live ammunitions, empty shells of expanded ammunition, parts of locally made guns, a camouflage cap, cash, phones, among others.
He said the Command would continue to partner with members of the public in the discharge 0f their responsibility of protecting lives and properties in the state.
