Bad weather caused a military plane to crash in Myanmar in June, killing all 122 on board, state media reported on Wednesday.

The aircraft was flying from the country’s southern coast to the commercial capital of Yangon when contact was lost.
Scores of bodies, along with remnants of the plane, were later recovered from the Andaman Sea.

“Investigators ruled out sabotage or engine failure, blaming the crash on a sudden increase in cross wind which caused the plane to stall,’’ the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar reported.

The army-led investigation team, which included Australian aviation officials, reviewed data from the recovered flight recorders, concluding that the pilot was not able to retain control after the aircraft spun into a nosedive.

NAN reports that authorities said that the disaster is among the worst in the country’s aviation history.

The aircraft, a Y-8 transporter made in China, was carrying 14 crew.

Most of the passengers were military personnel and family members, including children.(dpa/NAN)
