The Police Command in Oyo on Wednesday paraded a student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Abiodun Olabisi, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Lekan Adegun, to death.

The deceased, a graduate of the Department of Transport Management of the same institution, was waiting for his call-up letter for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps programme before the incident happened.

The state Police Commissioner, Abiodun Odude, while parading the suspect at a press conference in Ibadan, said the incident happened following a quarrel between the two as a result of petty jealousy.

According to him, the two were living together at the Phoenix area, Stadium Road, Ogbomoso, when the incident happened.

Odude disclosed that the incident happened around 8pm on November 21, 2018, and that the victim was later rushed to the Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, where he died before help could reach him.

He further disclosed that the kitchen knife used to commit the act had been recovered and the suspect has also been arraigned in court.

The police also paraded a bricklayer, Daniel Segun, who allegedly robbed LAUTECH students in their hostels, Aremu Mayowa, an undergraduate of the same institution who was arrested for rape and Abiodun David, a suspected Internet fraudster, arrested for placing fake online advertisements to defraud people.

Others paraded were two members of an armed robbery gang, Waris Lukman and Sodiq Olabode, who were said to specialise in stealing motorcycles in the Olomi area of the state,

The police commissioner said the police also recovered 22 motorcycles from the gang.

Odude restated the commitment of the command to fighting criminal elements in the state, saying the command was already depleting the ranks of criminals through intelligence-based raid of identified criminal hideouts and intensive vehicle patrol of entry and exit points in the state.

He also assured that the clampdown on criminal elements in the state would be sustained even after the yuletide and the general election periods to ensure the sustainability of the relative peace for the electorate, candidates, INEC staff members and other participants in the electoral process.
