True democrats cannot find a place in the All Progressives Congress, APC, because it is an undemocratic organisation.
This is the verdict of the National Chairman of the leading opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.
Secondus gave the verdict on Wednesday when he reacted to the defection of the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal.
The PDP leader praised the governor for taking “a bold step” for democracy, he was quoted as saying in a statement signed by his media aide, Ike Abonyi.
The national chairman who also led leaders of the party on a solidarity visit to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State in Makurdi on Wednesday also commended the governor for standing up for his people.
He berated the APC administration for the alleged illegal attempt to impeach the governor for dumping an “irresponsible party in response to the desires of his people.”
Secondus condemned the Police siege to the Benue State House of Assembly warning that the state was in the hand of God and any attempt to impeach the governor would be resisted by the people and God.
Secondus said history had a huge space for all the defectors for their sacrifice to save the nation’s democracy.
“These defectors are making a bold statement for democracy and their sacrifices must not go unrecognized.
“More and more people will leave the APC because no true democrat would find a home in an undemocratic and dictatorial body.
“APC has shown clearly through their actions and inactions since 2015, that it’s an organisation that is averse to democratic ethos and therefore cannot accommodate lovers of true democracy, rule of law and civil liberty.”
He said the fact that the defectors were spread all over the country irrespective of tribe and religion showed that APC had failed woefully even in its attempt to clandestinely whip up geo-political and religious sentiments.
He noted that the political realignments across the country and the enthusiasm shown by Nigerians in the happenings in the polity should be a signal to the ruling APC that the time was up as the journey to save Nigeria’s democracy had long begun.

“I urge all good democrats and patriots still in APC to make haste to jump out from an obvious sinking ship,” he said.
The PDP national chairman assured those rejoining the PDP as well as o
ther new comers that the party had been rebranded and repositioned to regain power and deepen the nation’s democracy.
