A Makurdi-based group, Benue Youth Forum, Tuesday, raised the alarm over plot to sponsor a protest and blame Governor Samuel Ortom for the killings in the state.

The group’s president, Terrence Kuanum, made this known in a statement sent to the NEXT EDITION.

Following the failed impeachment move against the governor on Monday, Mr. Kuannum said “enemies” of the state would activate their “Plan B” to sponsor protests in Makurdi on Wednesday.

“The plot is part of the smear campaign against the governor which is being coordinated by a serving senator from the state,” the statement reads.

“The senator is a key member of the larger group of conspirators in Abuja. The protesters have been told to falsely accuse Governor Ortom on many issues and accuse Benue people of killing themselves.

“The target of the protest is to convince the people that the killings are not carried out by Fulani herdsmen as widely believed. The mobilised youths will also say the anti-open grazing law is the cause of the killings and should be suspended immediately.

“The youths will also drum support for APC, President Buhari and their immediate paymaster the senator,” the statement continued.

The group also noted that the hired protesters will call for the declaration of a state of emergency in the state as well as the reinstatement of the impeached speaker of the state’s assembly.

It said the barricading and chasing away of workers from the state assembly by the police are part of the plot to destabilize the state.

The youth group also alerted that the paid protestors will demand the reappointment sacked members of the state executive council who are allies of the influential senator responsible for the crisis in the state.

“If the protests fail, plan C of the group is to begin the withdrawal of Operation Whirl Stroke troops to allow Fulani herdsmen free passage to parts of Benue to cause more pain to the people,” the statement indicated.
