Tweeting on her verified handle, Laing noted the power of peaceful protests.

Laing posited that the recent Police Act passed by President Muhammadu Buhari, should provide a good foundation for accountable community police force.
Her tweet read: “Significant protests over #SARS demonstrating Nigerian people’s desire for police reform. Peaceful protests are powerful. Police Act recently passed by @MBuhari provides good foundation to build more accountable community police force. @UKinNigeria @PoliceNG”
Protesters, mostly the youth have sustained a demand for the scrapping of the police Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS, noted for its brutality and arbitrariness in dealing with innocent citizens.
The Next Edition reports that the Inspector-General of Police had earlier in the week banned the special unit from routine patrols and low-risk assignments.
However, the protesters insist that nothing short of complete disbandment of the unit would be acceptable.
