74 million voters have registered ahead of the 2019 general election, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has said.
The figure, according to Yakubu, was expected to reach between 80 and 85 million by 2019 following the on-going nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
INEC Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi , made these known in a statement he issued in Abuja on Friday.
Osaze-Uzzi said INEC boss gave the details at the 15th edition of the Daily Trust Dialogue.
Yakubu was represented at the occasion by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mr Solomon Soyebi.

While stressing that the votes of Nigerians would count in the general election in 2019, the INEC boss said a lot of improvement had been made in the electoral process since the current commission came on board.
Yakubu said the commission would involve all stakeholders to ensure the success of the electoral process.
He added that the commission would adhere strictly to the schedule it released recently for the conduct of the election.
He said the commission was not unaware of the responsibility it was saddled with and would ensure that no stone would be left unturned in making a success of it.
