Mr. Mashood Adewuyi, Head of Fire Service in Oyo State, confirmed the fire incident in a telephone conversation on Saturday morning, stating that two people died during the incident.

He declared that the fire outbreak resulted when the tanker had a brake failure, thereby making the driver to lose control and collide with the truck.

Adewuyi said: “Yes, the incident occurred yesterday (Friday) evening along the Moniya-Iseyin Road.

“It was caused by brake failure by the tanker. As a result, the tanker’s driver lost its control. It collided with the truck. In the process, it hit many cars and this resulted in the fire outbreak.

“It is at Moniyan-Iseyin road. You know the road is under construction. Many cars that were on the road were hit by the tanker. 12 cars were burnt, five motorcycles, 14 shops and two lives were involved.”
